Natural Electrolyte Drink For Labour

Updated: Apr 16, 2020

Electrolytes are necessary for proper muscle function, nerve conduction, pH balance and hydration! Ever ran a marathon? Participated in any strenuous activity? Well, going through labour and delivery is just that and probably even more!! Here's a natural electrolyte drink you should be drinking to keep up your strength!

2 cups coconut water

1 cup water

Freshly squeezed juice from 1 lime

Freshly squeeze juice from 1 lemon

1 tablespoon honey*

1/4 teaspoon Himalayan salt

1-3 drops of Rescue Remedy (optional)

Mix this all up and store in a canteen/thermos. Bring a straw! It helps to drink out of when you're in awkward positions - reduces the risk of liquids being smashed into your face :)

I'm not really going to get into the topic of honey... some say it's all good, some say to avoid it. If you're uncomfortable with honey, just use sugar. When it comes down to it... sugar is sugar so just use sugar.

If you want to make this ahead of time, freeze the lemon, lime, honey, salt mixture into ice cubes and store the coconut water and water in the canteen. When it's go time, take the ice cubes out and pop them into the canteen. If you are doing this really ahead of time, when the concentrated lemon/lime cubes are fully frozen, take them out and put it in a plastic bag separately in the freezer. Now it's really a grab and go situation.
